My guest in this episode is Patrick Bet-David. Patrick’s amazing story starts with his family fled Iran during the revolution to a refugee camp in Germany eventually immigrating to America when he was 12-years old; eventually being granted US citizenship. After high school Patrick joined the U.S. military and served in the 101^st Airborne before starting a business career in the financial services industry with Morgan Stanley Dean Witter. After a tenure with a couple traditional companies, he was inspired to launch PHP Agency Inc., an insurance marketing organization – and did so before he turned 30. My guest today is Vincenzo Villamena. Vincenzo is the founder and CEO of Online Taxman. He has extensive experience in both tax preparation and advising clients in accounting and financial transactions. At Online Taxman, Vincenzo oversees corporate and individual filings. He specializes in in offshore structuring for US entrepreneurs abroad and US real estate transactions by foreign nationals and funds. Before founding Online Taxman, Vincenzo served as partner in 4 Corners Inc., focusing on individuals and businesses for accounting and tax preparation matters as well as advising high net worth individuals in private equity investing. Vincenzo also has “Big 4” audit and corporate accounting experience during his time with PricewaterhouseCoopers, involved in Fortune 100 audit engagements and M&A transactions, giving him the knowledge to perform analysis in valuation, corporate finance, and technical accounting issues. He has both a Masters of Accounting and Bachelors of Business Administration with distinction from the University of Michigan’s Stephen M Ross School of Business. Vincenzo loves to travel and is fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and Italian. Vincenzo currently lives in Medellin, Colombia, the location of our newest office.

My guest in this episode is Doug Casey. Best-selling author, world-renowned speculator, and libertarian philosopher Doug Casey has garnered a well-earned reputation for his erudite (and often controversial) insights into politics, economics, and investment markets. Doug is widely respected as one of the preeminent authorities on “rational speculation,” especially in the high-potential natural resource sector. Doug literally wrote the book on profiting from periods of economic turmoil: his book Crisis Investing spent multiple weeks as #1 on the New York Times bestseller list and became the best-selling financial book of 1980 with 438,640 copies sold; surpassing big-caliber names, like Free to Chooseby Milton Friedman, The Real War by Richard Nixon, and Cosmos by Carl Sagan. In this episode we are going to look the investment vehicle of Life Settlements. Life Settlements for those not familiar with the asset class is a sale of an existing life insurance policy by the policy owner to a third party for more than the cash surrender value of the life insurance policy. Because the cost to buy a policy is so high, this investment has historically been available to institutional investors only. Many large companies (e.g., Berkshire Hathaway, Goldman Sachs, AIG, Credit Suisse, Deutsche Bank) have invested in Life Settlements for years to supplement their portfolios due to the high yield potential, low risk and non-correlation to the performance of the financial markets. These investments are now available to mid and high net worth investors through private placements, private policy portfolios, and private policy investments.
